How to Stack Earrings for a Gorgeous Statement Look

Nothing gets our hearts racing like a gorgeous well-stacked ear. When it comes to earrings, the age-old notion of 'less is more' is old and outdated. Getting the right mix of studs, hoops and ear cuffs can be tricky, so here are our stacking tips for achieving the perfect curated ear.

PICK A THEME

If you are a newbie to stacking, pick a theme (i.e. celestial) and stick to it. I like to stack the same symbol (i.e. North Star) in different variations such as the hoop and mismatched studs. Having multiple variations of the North Star not only emphasises the celestial theme, but keeps the stack looking cohesive and elegant.

Whether you love the dreamy ethereal look or something edgier like a punk / safety pin style, you can't go wrong when you stick to one theme.

Wear a big safety pin earring next to some small safety pin studs to emphasis the theme. Add a cross ear cuff to further accentuate the punk look. The rest of your piercings can be filled with simple solitaire studs that add sparkle, but don't detract from the main look.

CUFF IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT

add an ear cuff or two to glam up your stack

Nothing makes a statement like an ear cuff or two! Personally, I love ear cuffs because they are so versatile. They create the illusion of a cartilage piercing and are great for those who have less piercings or none at all. If you are a newbie to ear cuffs, there's a trick to wearing them and you can watch our tutorial here

Whether you wear a dainty ear cuff or a chunky cuff with a dangling heart, the possibilities are endless! You can quickly switch up the look of your stack from sophisticated to statement just by changing your ear cuff. Easy to wear and take off, they are the perfect accessories to help you create a gorgeous stack.

CASCADE: LET YOUR EARRINGS FLOW LIKE WATER

cascade rule for stacking earrings

Like water flowing down a small mountain stream into a big cascading waterfall, earrings flow the same way. Small at the top, big at the bottom. This creates a well proportioned look that elongates your ear.

Start by wearing your larger dangling earrings at the bottom which provides the basis of your stack. This is the statement area, the strongest part of your stack that gets everyone looking. Add smaller pieces the higher you go for more detail and refinement.

Likewise when stacking hoops of different thickness, wear the biggest and chunkiest hoop at the bottom (Croissant), followed by the next thickest (Huggie). Stack the smallest studs at the top. The drop of your earrings should follow the natural curve of your ear so it looks effortless.
